Tracing

Hello everyone! I love drawing but am not great at it. I know everyone says tracing is bad and doesn’t help develop skills like anatomy or perspective, and that it’s theft. Is this true? If you’re not using it and clearly state that you trace something and credit the OG artist, is that ok? And does it really not help developing skills?
