F1 visa for traveling to mexico

Has anyone gone on a CRUISE to Mexico with only F-1 visa? Hi! I am interested in going on a cruise that leaves from LA to Mexico. The Mexican government website states that I do not need a Mexican visa for the cruise (I am of Chinese nationality, so I would've needed one if I were to fly there). I'm wondering what the process is going to be like when I return back to the US. I'm assuming they will just check my F-1 visa and I-20 with a travel signature. I'm wondering if anyone has taken a similar cruise and can let me know what the process is like returning to the US!
