How do i differentiate tonsillitis and throat cancer

17F turning 18 this year and i've been occasionally smoking 2-3 cigs a day (no cigs during vacations overseas twice a year) since 2 years ago. This is not the first time i've had pain when swallowing but i always overthink when it happens. Little white lumps on one side when i checked my mouth (like strep throat?)
