Main house drain was clogged over a weekend, I rented a snake and cleared it up. 3 days later the toilet was looking clogged again, my wife called me about it and said she is going to go do errands. as I was about to leave my work to rent a snake again, My father in law called Roto Rooter because of their free estimates and he called me before I left work and said to stay at work, and he will meet up with the roto Rooter guy and he'll let me know what they said.

A guy showed up a few hours later. At that exact time, my wife came home too (after she saw it was clogged earlier, she had left to do errands for a few hours) , my wife, my father in law, and the roto Rooter guy all found the toilet not clogged at all! And he asked if it would be okay to attempt to clog it. So they put a bunch of toilet paper in the toilet! Wouldn't clog!

Then he asked my father in law if he can speak to me, and he called me told me "okay something is not right with your system. normally we charge $800, but since you don't have an active clog , I spoke with my manager, we can run a camera down your drain for $550 and we can verify what's going on down there" , I did not laugh or disrespect him, I said "I appreciate you coming out here my man but I'm gonna be honest, I can BUY a camera for $191 shipped on Amazon right now, is there anything you can do for me on that price?" I would have paid up to $200 for this, even though yes you can actually buy a 98 foot one on Amazon. But I figured he would know what to look for, I wouldn't. He said "no we don't adjust prices" I said "sorry man I think I'm just gonna have to buy a camera and do it myself, $550 is a lot of money" and he said "okay yeah you do that and let us know what you find" all annoyed and sarcastic. After I got home, I called a local plumbing company, John's discount plumbing or something, he came the next day, and fished a camera down there for free! There was nothing really wrong with the pipes, but I BOUGHT a drain snake, because you rent one for $100, but buy one for $300.

What is your guys take on the price to stick a camera in my main house drain ? Was $550 crazy?
