Feeling Invalidated and Isolated in EMDR. Thinking About Quitting.

I started therapy recently to navigate this new stage of life. I'm 6 months postpartum, a business owner, and adjusting to motherhood after living a child-free, travel-heavy lifestyle. It's been a huge shift. Between breastfeeding challenges, identity changes, and a lack of time for anything social, I've felt pretty isolated lately.

I brought this up in therapy, and instead of exploring the current reality of postpartum life, my therapist immediately latched onto the idea that I “don’t trust people,” which is why I “don’t have friends.” She tied this to some past traumas I’ve already done a lot of therapy work on, and it felt like she was pathologizing a perfectly understandable feeling. Yes, I do have trust issues, my work and childhood has exposed me to a lot of toxic and abusive people, and I’ve had my share of trauma, but I see my guardedness as a healthy boundary, not the root cause of my current isolation.

The more sessions we’ve had, the more I feel like she’s trying to force everything through the lens of my past, rather than actually meeting me where I am today. I don’t want to rehash old memories that I’ve made peace with. Honestly, I just don’t care to revisit them, and now I feel more isolated, because I don’t feel seen or validated in what I’m currently going through. Ugh, I just want a safe place to vent about my baby waking every 2 hours while also having a large work contract to fulfill.

I’m thinking about quitting EMDR or finding a new therapist. Maybe I'm missing something. Therapy is $200/hr and I'm scheduled for 4 hrs/mo. I really don't want to keep wasting my time or money unless there is some gain.

Thoughts?
