Currently on the side of the road after my car was making a loud grating sound

My boyfriend and I were on our way to Kentucky and our car started making a loud grating noise, initially we thought for the first 20 seconds it was the road but then it got louder so we pulled over and when we put the car back in drive and pulled out the car continued to grate and when he gently tapped the brakes it jerked.

The car just got it’s brake pads replaced 2 weeks ago so I don’t understand how this could’ve happened. We looked underneath the car and everything seems normal but in the meantime we are waiting for a tow truck.
