Best Headphones to buy

What are the best headphones to buy for studying and listening to music. I have a budget of $500 (but prefer to spend less). I have always owned AirPods so headphones are new to me. It will likely be used at a desk or on bus rides. I have heard the sony wh-1000xm5 is good, but let me know about any others.
