How are Med School Students reacting to the GRAD PLUS Loan Caps

❔ Discussion

Hey all — I’m part of a student-led project called MiniMedMentors, where I interview healthcare students and professionals to share insight with those who don’t always have mentors nearby.

I recently spoke with a second-year med student about how they’re coping with med school stress and the recent Grad PLUS loan cap, which goes into effect next year.

“Honestly, it made me a lot more anxious. Since I rely on both unsubsidized and Grad PLUS loans, the idea of a cap means I could suddenly be short on funding for essentials... and yes everyone is freaking out trust me we all are talking about it.” They also touched on mental fatigue, their goals in internal medicine and cardiology, and how their views on finances and work-life balance have evolved.
