This is a continuation of my “Second Iran-Iraq War” scenario. Elements of this post were inspired by Call of Duty: Ghosts (2013) and Call of Duty 4 (2007).

Following the death of Saddam Hussein by mortar fire, the US-led multinational coalition turned its attention to General Faruk Ghorbrani, chief commander of the Iranian invasion force that attacked Iraq.

Ghorbrani had ordered a purge of the Sunni Muslims in Iraq, deciding that the so-called “Iraqi attack on Iran” was evidence that a regime change was needed in Iraq to ensure such an attack on Iran could never happen again.

As such, Ghorbrani ordered his forces to lay siege to the capital city of Baghdad.

In the meantime, the US-led coalition forces launched a joint operation with a second coalition of various Sunni Muslim nations led by Turkey to eliminate Ghorbrani, with Turkey deeming him a madman and a “danger to the Muslim community.”

Initially, intel convinced the US forces that Ghorbrani was hiding in a TV station. However, upon raiding the location, Ghorbrani was not present.

In the meantime, US forces rescued a stranded M1 Abrams tank from a large joint force of Shia Iraqi and Iranian troops that sought to destroy it.

Three weeks later, the infamous “Siege of Baghdad Hospital” occurred, with an even larger force of Iranians attempting to capture a civilian hospital in Baghdad.

64 people from various special operations teams and foreign volunteer fighters were deployed Baghdad with the main objective of protecting a hospital and its occupants inside from a large force of approximately five hundred enemy combatants.

After three days of heavy fighting, the men were eventually cut down to twelve. It was at this point that the US Special Forces teams decided to evacuate the hospital's occupants that was led by one of the operators. US Army soldier, Derek Westbrook, US Marine Ellie Cohen, British soldier Doug Harris, and Turkish soldier Omer Gunes, rallied the surviving soldiers for what they believed was their “final stand.”

When the Iranians arrived to finish off the defenders, the remaining soldiers and civilian volunteers struck like banshees, using stealth and an unusual fighting style never before seen in combat; the joint team of civilian volunteers and soldiers resorted to their guns, knives and, eventually, their bare hands.

By early 2002, the coalition forces assumed that Ghorbrani must have been in the Basra Governorate of Iraq. They set up another invasion force and assaulted the city.

Unfortunately, they fell into a trap; Ghorbrani had anticipated the attack and had his men smuggle a nuclear device into his palace three weeks in advance.

Upon learning of the nuclear device, Command immediately called the bomb-squads in and withdrew all military personnel from the area.

Unfortunately the nuke detonated before the invasion force could completely retreat, killing sixty thousand Coalition troops and irradiating the city. Cohen, Harris, and Westbrook were one of a handful of soldiers that made it out.
