Triptans and serotonin syndrome?
I just started my 50mg dose of Zoloft today after 2 weeks of 25mg, per psychiatrists orders. Unfortunately I get migraines and I normally take 50mg Imitrex to knock them out in 50 minutes or so. Well, I read about serotonin syndrome and I went to the urgent care nearby 2 Saturdays ago to get a shot of toradol which only worked like 12 hours later... had another migraine this past Sunday and decided just to risk it as according to all the medical articles the risk specifically with triptans was very low (but not 0 of course). Nothing happened. Now I have another one tonight, but am nervous about taking the imitrex because I upped my sertraline dosage. My plan is to power through tonight, then take imitrex first thing in the morning (I take the sertraline about 3 hours after waking up, with breakfast) and just keep an eye out at work for symptoms of serotonin syndrome and go to ER if it happens. Thoughts?
TL;DR - nervous about taking my imitrex with sertraline
P.S. I have messaged my doctor to see if I can switch migraine meds to one that does not interact with SSRIs.
