My Mum Needs a Kidney. We’re Trying Everything. Could you be the match that saves my mum’s life?

In April 2024, our lives changed forever.

My mum — a kind, brave, and deeply loved woman — fell suddenly ill with a severe infection that led to sepsis. She was rushed into hospital, where we were told she might not make it. She fought through septic shock, her liver, kidneys and lungs failed, she took multiple medications, and a very long hospital stay. And she survived.

But during that battle, her kidneys took a devastating hit. What started as inflammation turned into significant scarring. A biopsy showed around 80% damage. She was diagnosed with Acute Tubulointerstitial Nephritis, a condition that’s led to chronic kidney disease (CKD).

Over the past two months, we’ve watched her go from being completely bedridden to slowly walking, smiling, and cooking again. Her spirit is unmatched — she never complains, even when her fingers stiffen, her face swells, or her blood pressure swings unpredictably. She’s only 45 and she’s fighting with everything she has.

Right now, we are doing everything we can — managing medications, staying on top of labs, adjusting meals, and holding on to hope. The journey isn’t easy, but she is tougher than anything this illness has thrown at her.

We’re just sharing her story — because sometimes, even in the darkest times, the world reminds us of its kindness. And sometimes, just being heard matters more than anything.
