Best Accommodations for a Middle School Student?

Hello everyone! I hope you are taking care. Big thank yous to all of our educators; you do so much!

My sibkid (sibling's kid, 12F) will be starting middle school (6th grade) this year but they have ADHD and their literacy level could use some work.

I don't want them to be coddled but I want them to have the resources they need to succeed in school, something I didn't really have nor did my parent advocate for. My sister is active in her child's life but needs a bit of support in the more . . . detailed tasks as she is a single mom and her kid's biological father is useless (I don't say that lightly).

What accommodations (I'm not sure what it would be called for K-12) would be beneficial for them alongside adequate support at home? I believe they will be turning in assignments in a combo of paper and online via a platform like my university's Canvas.

I'll be tutoring them as I'm the one with the degree and the patience to do so and my sister is making sure the social-emotional support will be there as well.

I would say what I wanted in school but to be honest, it's all a blur due to depression and whatnot, so I can't really help in that department! Thank you so much!

Edit: Sorry, let me reword the question. In YOUR experience, what have been helpful accommodations in general, so we can get an idea of what she may need after speaking to a professional? What were accommodations that were counterproductive?

For example, I asked about accommodations in a thread for myself as I didn't know which ones would hinder or help me and it helped me gauge what would be benenficial such as time to manage depressive symptoms without repercussions (my classes require attendance and participation and leaving mid-discussion is frowned upon) and extended test times since I have trouble with time management for double checking answers during exams. I also looked into having an additional absence for the more unmanageable days according to comments I received. My apologies if I wasn't clear!
