I gave my car to a friend in Canada before returning to India. He promised to pay, now he’s ignoring me. What can I do legally
Hi everyone,
I was in Canada on a work permit, but I had to return to India recently due to health and financial issues.
Before leaving, I gave my car to a junior (on work permit) who promised to pay me back later. I trusted him without taking any money because he was like a younger brother to me.
He works in a restaurant and used to go to some office regularly. He told me he would send the money. I have text messages of him saying he will pay, but now he’s completely ignoring my calls and messages. His roommates keep saying “he’s busy,” but I think he’s avoiding me.
I’m in a very tough place financially, and this money means a lot to me.
I’m in India now. I have: • His name and contact. • The restaurant he works at. • Messages where he says he’ll pay. But no official sale agreement or receipts.
Is there any legal action I can take from India? • Can I report him to the police in Canada or his employer? • Is this considered a civil or criminal issue? • What should I do to at least pressure him legally or socially?
Any help or guidance is appreciated. 🙏
