What do you do when a “minor” disappointment brings you to tears?
You know when you’re having a hard time (day/week/etc) and you push yourself through it towards something you’re looking forward to, but then it ends up being a disappointment and you just want to cry and/or have a toddler-like tantrum? Especially if it’s made all the worse because to any outsider, it just seems like a minor inconvenience or totally normal thing to deal with? How do you handle that? How do you bounce back or try and make it better?
I feel like this happens to me all the time. Even when I try to temper expectations, not get excited about anything, etc it still hits me and makes me so angry, sad, disappointed.
Today’s example is that for over a week, I’ve been looking forward to making an hour long drive to a specific store to get a cheap dupe for the Dyson AirWrap. I knew it probably wouldn’t last long and hoped for maybe a few months given the price. I got it home and looked forward to using it, but my husband needed my help working on something outside…then we took the toddler to the pool for the evening…then I finally get home, get the toddler in bed and laundry switched and have time to shower and bust out my new toy…which dies and stops working right as I’m attempting the curl attachment, AKA the main reason I even bought it. Now I want to cry because I got so hot and sweaty and worn out between working outside and then chasing my toddler around all evening and I had really been looking forward to this all day and now it’s over before I even got to really try it.
I have no one to vent to about it because my only real friend is my husband and he doesn’t understand. He’s frustrated for me of course but he won’t “get why it’s a big deal” if I go off about it like I am right now. He’s not a bad person, he just processes things differently. I’m not sure just venting is really enough anyway.
