Does your teenage son have an e-bike? Looking for opinions.

My son turns 13 in a few weeks and has been begging for an e-bike for nearly a year. Nearly all of his friends have one, but I have stood firm in the “no” camp because I’m concerned about safety. He is a responsible kid - on the A honor roll, cares about his grades, is in sports, he truly is an all around great kid. But he’s still a teenage boy. And I worry about teenage boys making stupid decisions on an electric bike that is seemingly nearly the same thing as a dirt bike/motorcycle. He always wears his helmet when riding his mountain/pedal bike, and he knows I’d whoop his ass if I ever caught him on something like an e-bike without a helmet, so I’m not concerned about him not wearing his helmet when I’m not around. Idk, I’m likely what is considered a “helicopter mom” and I think about his safety 24/7, probably too much so, so it’s hard for me to differentiate when I’m being rightfully cautious or too overbearing. Any input would be great if your kid has one!
