Looking for advice on an outdoor event venue setup.
Hey everyone, I'm looking to get some input/advice on an audio setup I'm trying to put together for a small outdoor event. I'm getting married at the end of August and instead of hiring a DJ, I'd like to do most of the setup myself.
It's going to be a pretty small wedding (~20 people) but it's going to be outdoors. I'm completely new to AV setups like this but for a simple setup like I'm think about, I think I can do it with relatively little trouble.
The area that would need to be covered is about a 30' W x 20' L area. This is the approximate layout I've gotten so far. I'd like to run the setup off my laptop on a table off to the side of the rectangle. I've looked at a couple of mixers, but I started to wonder if one would even be necessary for what I'm planning. For the speakers themselves I'm thinking about a pair of these Kicker KB6 outdoor speakers. They would be placed in the corners of the rectangle but I don't know if it would be better to face them away from the altar or towards the altar. I don't think there would be any microphone usage so I'm not sure how much it really matters. Also, I think I would like to run this in dual channel? Still not completely clear on how the wiring would be different for doing that.
The max recommended amp power for those speakers is listed as 75W RMS or 150W Peak and 8 ohms impedance. I understand the power ratings but after looking through some amps online, I'm having a hard time finding any in that range. It seems like most listings try to put the largest wattage possible because bigger number = better. From what I've read, there is some discussion on how closely amp wattage and speaker wattage should match or how much more wattage speakers should be able to handle over the amps driving them. I'd love to get input on this specifically or any recommendations for solutions here.
My main questions are:
- Would a mixer even be necessary for a setup like this just for playing some music downloaded to a laptop for a few hours? If so, any recommendations or things to avoid?
- Should speaker wattage and amp wattage match decently closely or should speakers lead amp by a decent amount?
- Recommendations for amps for this setup?
- Any other advice/recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
