Cracked Slide resolution
For the folks curious:
The RMA submission was not received by us, likely for oversized files, so I have requested he resubmit (with some modifications to the method), and told him it would be handled tomorrow.
Please remember: we’ve all screwed up plenty in the past. Sometimes a bit of grace is necessary.
So, in honor of that, I’ll give you one of mine:
When I worked in the Pistol Production Facility as an assembly/test fire tech, I was super eager to do the best I could as fast as I could! I’d been there a little over a month. It was getting close to the end of the day, and I was flat-busted tired, but I wanted to get one more order of 100 slides finished up. So I installed all the front sights. Then moved to the next station and did all the rear sights, then the internals. Then lubed them all up and started installing barrels and RSA. Then my line lead, Mike, came over and looked at the sheet…
“Uh, did you read this sheet carefully, Danny?”
I installed the wrong sights. On all 100 of them. They were ECC slides, no optic cuts. I installed 1XL suppressor-height sights. They should have gotten the 3-dot standard day sights…
So, here’s Assembly Danny, now LITERALLY removing rear sights individually by hand-crank sight pusher (Avid makes a BEAST of a pusher, btw)…
Made it through 15 of them in 24 minutes before they took pity on me and literally created a one-time SKU so that I wouldn’t have to do it 85 more times. Then I stayed late to reinstall those already-once-removed rear sights. They also now have a new method of removal with the hydraulic pushers because of that incident.
So, those of you who bought black ECC non-optic cut slides in March of 2023 and got 1XL sights on them: you’re welcome.
Anyone else have some stories?
