Received CPF Medisave Payment Notice for Past Self-Employed Income – Do I Need to Pay?

CPF

Hi all, I’m currently a full-time employee in Singapore, but I recently received a notice from CPF Board saying I have Medisave liabilities for past self-employed income over the last 3 years.

Back then, I was doing some online work from home (not driving for Grab or anything similar), and I guess I was considered self-employed.

I have two questions:

  1. Am I really required to pay the Medisave contributions? The work was freelance/online-based and wasn’t a registered business per se.
  2. If I pay the amount, will it count towards my tax relief? Specifically, does it count towards the Medisave/Voluntary CPF contributions tax relief cap of $8,000 per year?

Any insights would be appreciated. Thank you!
