An MCP that doesn't suck.
Hey all,
I've been using claude desktop and found most of the MCP servers out there suck (even the filesystem one) w/ obsidian.
So I found one by Nate Strong... but then he removed it and disappeared from the world. NOOOOOO.
So I took what I had of his and build my own. Here it is:
https://github.com/that0n3guy/ObsidianPilot
The biggest difference between mine and most the other is that it can actually find stuff, follow links, and make simple edits. Almost others suck at it.
I was surprised at how hard this was for LLM's with most all the other MCP's out there.
If you want, I can show you some workflows on how this is used to do stuff like: daily summaries, project reviews, task gathering, weekly reviews, moving tasks from obsidian to a task management system, etc..

ObsidianPilot: The MCP Built for How LLMs Actually Work with Obsidian
Stop Fighting Your Tools. Start Flying Through Your Vault.
While other Obsidian MCPs treat AI like just another API client, ObsidianPilot is designed from the ground up for how LLMs actually think and work. The result? Workflows that used to take dozens of back-and-forth operations now happen seamlessly in just a few steps.
The Difference is in the Details
π Intelligent Link Resolution
Other MCPs leave your AI searching blindly when it encounters [[My Note]] links. ObsidianPilot automatically resolves paths and provides context, eliminating the token-wasting search loops that plague other solutions.
βοΈ Smart Editing That Actually Works
Tired of entire files getting overwritten when you just want to update a section? ObsidianPilot's surgical editing tools let you modify specific parts of notes without touching the rest - saving tokens and preventing the dreaded "oops, I lost my content" moments.
β‘ Blazing Fast Local Search
Our locally-indexed search means instant results instead of waiting for API calls. Your AI gets the information it needs immediately, keeping workflows smooth and responsive.
π·οΈ Frontmatter That Just Works
While other MCPs choke on YAML frontmatter, ObsidianPilot handles it gracefully - searching, editing, and preserving your metadata without corruption or errors.
π Zero Plugin Dependencies
No more wrestling with the local_rest_api plugin and its quirks. ObsidianPilot works directly with your vault files, eliminating a major source of bugs and complexity.
See the Difference in Action
A simple workflow: Open today's daily note β follow its links β get backlinks β summarize your day.
- With other MCPs: 15+ operations, multiple searches, frequent errors, high token usage
- With ObsidianPilot: 3-4 smooth operations that just work
Built for Obsidian Power Users
ObsidianPilot understands that Obsidian users are technical and want tools that respect their intelligence. We've eliminated the friction points that make other MCPs feel clunky, creating an experience that feels like your AI truly understands your vault.
