Asking artist to put on stencil first and keep for a day or two for placement to sit on decision

Hi,

Is it weird to ask the artist to stick and place the stencil on the skin where i want the tattoo and sit on it for a couple of days to decide?

First time getting a tattoo and not exactly sure the whole process.
