Inshore/Nearshore Baitcaster Selection
Looking at getting a new bait casting reel for inshore/near shore redfish, trout, striped bass, and Spanish mackerel. I’d like something that can accurately cast weightless jerk shad when I’m sight fishing and 3/4 oz top waters/hard plastics. I’d like a minimum drag of 20lbs for targeting bull reds and striped bass if/when the situation arises.
I am interested in the Piscifun Alijoz 300 for its combination of drag and durability given my $150 budget. Seems to be a very versatile reel but I’m concerned about the lighter weight/finesse work given the larger spool and the impact on casting. I prefer a gear ratio in the 5-7:1 range (been fishing in that range my whole life) and I am planning on putting this new reel on a Lews Laser SG1 7’ MH/F. I appreciate any recommendations, even if that means getting a new rod for the Alijoz when I’m planing on going weightless.
