Ashura and it's significance
Ashura and it's Significance especially for Bohras today
Ashura is over and it is time, we took a honest review of what it means to us. Ashura is meant to commemorate the bravery and willingness to stand for truth and argue(hujjat) with power in its full glory, exemplified by Yazeed. Imam Hussain showed us by example what was the right thing to do. He went to the extreme of allowing his family to be destroyed instead of bowing down to tyranny. Let us not forget that he was a human being like us, with love for the family and social needs of being part of the community.
We lament his sacrifice by beating our chests, (which is now ritualised in every prayer), singing marsiyas, shedding tears real or "rova jevu munh". Anyone would think that Imam Husain was a role model to be emulated and all Bohras would question and do hujjat and not meekly submit to the whims and diktats of any tyrant.
Is that the reality? Are Bohras emulating Imam Husain or is it exactly the opposite? Let's look at the facts to understand the reality.
- Bohras follow a leader, who has claimed on oath to be God on Earth or "Ilahul Ardh". Would like shirk be accepted by Imam Husain? Which Bohra questions this?
- According to Daimul Islam, a foundational book of the Bohra ideology, the Dai is 7th in hierarchy and sent by Imam to bring people to the fold. Who made him or how did he become the "Jaan ane Maal na Malik? Did even Imam Husain claim that?
- The Dai was supposed to be religious leader and guide every Muslim and Momin is supposed to use their Allah gifted Aqal to understand the difference between right and wrong. Bohras were followers like right from the time of Rasulallah SAWS, not slaves. When did we accept slavery and started calling ourselves as Abde and Amte? Why?
- Imam Husain met a few people who told him, "Our hearts are with you, but our swords are with Yazeed" Are Bohras like them?
- Imam Husain, son of Maulana Ali, who was very strict about Baitul Maal and did not misuse it and accounted for the last penny. Are Bohras with them or with those who have never accounted for the huge collections? The rich squanderers or Imam Husain?
- In Islam prostration or sujood is meant only for Allah. Imam Husain did it as his last action in life. He did not bow before a tyrant, let alone a sujood to any human being. So how do Bohras justify, "Sajda tujhe wajib hai?"
- Most Bohras say, yes there is a lot that is wrong, but I need to stick around for the community. Is that go with the sacrifices of Imam Husain? Isn't that hypocrisy? Bohras will say no. I am just being practical. Then in the next minute they glorify Imam Husain.
These are just a few questions. There are many more. Either you stand with Imam Husain or accept that you lack the honesty of your convictions and just do drama in the name of Imam Husain and are only interested in the food that follows the drama
