I don't know why my steam deck runs terribly

For context: i got my steamdeck Christmas 2024. Right out the box it sucked, barely could run any games, verrifed or playable, and get good fp,, and i would put it on very low graphics. I don't know if theres a setting in the steam deck or if i just don't know how to use it. I always cap games at like 60 fps but still manage to run lower and get frame drops. For example Outlast trials: i put it on the lowest graphicall setting and it gives me 50-60 fps. And not to mention that my steam decks physicall quality sucks too. The plastic casing pops and the R5 button broke. It just wouldn't click. After a bit of tinkering i gave up and the next day it just fixed itself. I keep very good care of it. But it really bothers me how bad the performance is. My steam deck is the OLED 1 terabyte one also incase that is important. I don't know much about computers or steam, and i got it as a gift, i want to know if you have ever experienced this before and if you know how to fix it. Thanks!

(Ps i did ask the person who gave it to me and they say they bought it directly from steam and not from Amazon or any other stores.)
