What does the firing of Horner have anything to do with keeping Max?

There seems to be behind the scenes drama i am not familiar with....but why are people saying RB sacked Horner as an attempt to keep Max from leaving?

are they suggesting a new regime may encourage positive changes, positive enough for max to want to stay?
