Why I’m Posting Less in r/periodontaldisease — And Not at All in the Big Dental Subs
I’ve been a fairly active contributor in r/periodontaldisease, sharing my recovery story and trying to help others based on my personal experience. But recently, I’ve decided to post there less often, and I’ve avoided the bigger dental subs altogether (like r/DentalHygiene, r/askdentists, and r/Teethcare). Here’s why:
🧩 1. Too Much Negativity and Hopelessness
I get it — gum disease can feel overwhelming, especially when you’re first diagnosed. But many posts in r/periodontaldisease reinforce this idea that there’s no hope once you’re past a certain stage. That mindset doesn’t help anyone move forward, and it can discourage people from even trying. I know because I felt the same way once.
🚫 2. Alternative Ideas Get Dismissed — or Flagged
Even when I carefully word posts based on my own results, it sometimes gets flagged, removed, or downvoted hard — just for saying that reversal might be possible. If it doesn’t align with mainstream practice, it’s often assumed to be "misinformation." There’s little room for genuine discussion if it doesn’t follow the conventional playbook.
🧪 3. The Big Subs Are Heavily Moderated by Dental Pros
I don’t have anything against dentists or hygienists. But many of the larger subs are moderated (or closely watched) by professionals in the field — which makes it very hard to talk about non-traditional approaches, even when done respectfully. I’ve avoided posting in them because I get the sense that the content will be removed or heavily scrutinized.
So… Why r/ZeroSulcus?
That’s why I started r/ZeroSulcus. It’s a place for people interested in self-directed healing, tactile-based feedback, and getting their gums to reattach naturally — without feeling shut down or labeled.
Whether you’re curious, skeptical, or just tired of being told it’s impossible — this space is for you.
You're welcome to ask questions, share your progress, or just read and explore ideas. The goal here is to support, not discourage.
