Can I have some advice on a psychology career for a college student considering a major switch?
Hey so I'm a rising sophomore in college right now and I'm an econ consulting major at a pretty high ranked business school, but I only ever picked it out of pressure and I'm realising I don't really care much for it and I did a summer internship as a business analyst and I got a taste of my future if I were to stick w major and I just hated it. Corporate work feels so soul sucking and I was working on stuff I couldn't care less about. Maybe if I liked my major I'd have done better.
Anyway so I started looking into psychology as an alternate. I took an intro to psych class my first year and liked it (it was mostly brain anatomy tho) and I'm taking an abnormal psych class next semester that I'm excited for also do plan on doing some volunteering. I know id have to get my masters to really work in the field like be a therapist, but id very likely end up in grad school either way and im privileged enough to graduate with any debt cause my parents are paying for everything (God bless them). I do love working with people (why I wanted to do consulting) and genuinely helping better their lives seems so appealing. Also im just so scared of corporate America and this feels like a nice way to set my own pace and escape that I feel?
I don't expect my job to make me happy at all, I know enough miserable adults to know that. I just don't want it to make me miserable too. And consulting (although a very broad statement) seems like a surefire way to guarantee that for myself. I don't really know how much the salary differences are tho so I haven't commented on that but could just use some advice!!
