Blue gill imitations?

Guy next to me caught more bass than I have ever seen someone catch using live blue gill. Anything imitate live blue gill well? Tried crank baits, roboworms, regular worms, deep water crank baits and even some crappie minnows. Nothing worked. I could see the fish, they would come up to the bait and not bite it.
