Can caterpillars eat leaves that have scale insects on them?

Got some giant swallowtails on my potted rue again, but I’m worried they’ll run out of food because there are 9 of them. I also have a Meyer lemon tree and may be able to sacrifice some of the leaves for them. But it’s infested with scale. Will they be able to eat the leaves as is or do I need to wipe them off with alcohol?
