Side Quests

Used to play Wizard101 religiously all through my childhood. I have this vivid memory of never skipping a side quest I came in sight of. Now that I’m boutta get back into it, are side quests even worth it? I always thought you would get some kind of step up in the next world but I was never really able to look into that theory.
