i don’t know for sure if this is from OCD but i need some help/advice

I need support - advice welcome

so, i have a really hard time handling when people have different beliefs than i do. this can be things from moral beliefs (like small differences in nuance, not huge things. for example, i have a friend who’s not as anti AI as i am. although we still agree on most things, some things they’re a little more grey about) to religious/spiritual beliefs.

my best friend recently let me know that they’ve been getting more into a certain spiritual practice. i’ve known they were spiritual for a long time, and i’m okay with it now, but when they first told me about it i had these same feelings i do now (stress, confusion, anxiety, etc) and it was very difficult for us both. for me because of how stressful it was trying to understand and accept it, because i’m mostly an atheist and not spiritual (i have experimented with these beliefs in the past and am still open to it, but overall i just don’t think it’s something that i believe or desire to practice), and for them because i know they didn’t want to feel judged or shamed for their beliefs and wanted to be open with me about it without fearing how it might make me feel.

it’s the same issue now. they told me about this certain thing they were starting to do, and i listened to them and tried to keep an open mind. i in no way want to belittle their beliefs or make them feel stupid for what they choose to follow. however, it just causes me so much stress. i desperately want to try and get some semblance of understanding as to why they believe what they believe, because it just makes no sense to me. when it comes to my beliefs i am mostly science and logic oriented, and when people don’t feel that same way it just. feels like someone is punching me in the head over and over. i feel this intense urge to “fix” it and to either make them believe the same way i do or to talk to them about their beliefs over and over again until i can understand it to some degree, but i don’t want to just grill them and put them on the spot and make them feel judged.

it’s so frustrating, because i don’t want to be rude. i want to let them believe what they want, i want to let them do what they want and do what makes them happy. but i just don’t understand it, and i can NOT peacefully sit with the fact i don’t understand it. i feel like i NEED to understand or i cannot rest. it just makes me so confused and so stressed and i can’t stop thinking about it, i want to either ask them about every little detail until it makes some sort of logical sense to me or i wish they just didn’t believe in it at all, but i know the latter is not my place and would be very mean. it just. ugh. i just can’t handle it, it stresses me out so bad.

i don’t know what to do. does this sound OCD related?? have any of you struggled with anything similar?? how do you just accept that people have these beliefs that seem illogical to you without going insane about it?? how do you just accept that people have different opinions or viewpoints without going insane about it?? it’s driving me up a wall and i don’t know how to deal with it. any advice would be greatly appreciated. thank you in advance
