Duskwalker Brides Book 4- Why it's hard for me to get through and is this weird?

Discussion 💬

So I am obsessed with the Duskwalker Brides series. Most of my comments on this sub last month referenced it. I love the FMCs, love the Duskwalkers, love it all. I mentioned in some comments how I was starting Book 4 and was excited to start it. That was 3 weeks ago and I'm only 27% through the book.

Why? The writing is amazing and the main characters are probably the best written so far in the series. I really enjoy it and WANT to keep reading. The problem is, I've always been a very..... immersive reader, ever since I was a kid and especially now as an adult. I live my books with the characters and in some cases see through their eyes... Except Raewyn is blind and being blind is very disorienting to me so I've only been able to read a few pages at a time before I get a headache... I would read and everything would feel heavy and I would be feeling her frustration at how she was being treated and her fear at being in a new realm and I couldn't see anything because she can't see anything but I pushed through because the book is really damn good. It's easier now that I've gotten to the point where it switches to Merikh's POV and when it switches every chapter or even in the middle of the chapter, I can now switch my brain to a more bystander third person watching which has made today's reading a lot easier but less into it for me so less enjoyable.

I tried to express my frustration at not being able to read it for too long to my husband when I like it so much and why am I so weird but he just said I'm not weird and I enjoy reading. But it's deeper than that and this is really annoying me when I love the book.

So tell me, has anyone else experienced this issue? How did you handle it? Do you read like this? Also if you've read this series, who is your favorite Duskwalker? (Mine is Magnar)
