Top 50 Players According to Win Shares: #46-50

Methodology:

  • Score = .5*PlayerPTS*(W/GP)^.25 + .75*PlayerAST*(W/GP)^.5 + .4*PlayerREB*(W/GP)^.5 - .2*PlayerFGA - .1*PlayerFTA - .2*PlayerTOV + .25*`Player+/-`
  • TeamScore = Sum of each player's Score
  • WS = Total Team Wins * (Score/TeamScore)
  • Final Score = 30 * (WS_regularSeason/GP_regularSeason) * GP_regularSeason^.25 + WS_postSeason

***Some years' results are excluded due to TeamScore being negative or less than one of the player's scores. This is a flaw in the metric and I am looking into it.

50. Mike Conley (24.554)

Regular Season Record: 652W - 520L (0.556)
Postseason Record: 55W - 53L (0.509)

Regular Season WS: 102.12
Postseason WS: 9.26

Conley was always right there but could never put up the big time stats that people often associate with superstardom. But otherwise, very consistent, very steady player.

49. Andre Iguodala (24.603)

Regular Season Record: 736W - 495L (0.598)
Postseason Record: 107W - 66L (0.618)

Regular Season WS: 92.97
Postseason WS: 11.18

Without a doubt, the Warriors' 4th best player on three different title teams. Won another with the Warriors in 2022 as a savvy veteran. Win Shares doesn't capture defense completely but Iguodala is a great defender so I think he is deserving of this spot.

48. Michael Jordan (24.731)

Regular Season Record: 198W - 108L (0.647)
Postseason Record: 30W - 10L (0.750)

Regular Season WS: 41.48
Postseason WS: 7.72

Yeah, I know it doesn't sit right to have him this low but I am including plus-minus in my WS formula and plus-minus wasn't available since 1996-97. So this is based on just four seasons for Jordan.

47. Lamar Odom (25.066)

Regular Season Record: 537W - 424L (0.559)
Postseason Record: 62W - 46L (0.574)

Regular Season WS: 88.16
Postseason WS: 9.74

Solid role-player. Cleaned up the boards for Kobe and acted as a secondary/tertiary playmaker.

46. Jaylen Brown (25.234)

Regular Season Record: 393W - 210L (0.652)
Postseason Record: 80W - 55L (0.593)

Regular Season WS: 53.45
Postseason WS: 12.06

Playmaking is his main weak point but otherwise he is pretty strong in all other facets of the game. Very dependable 2nd/3rd option.
