wanting to upgrade

i have right now an Ion TTUSB05 with edifier speakers. i’m giving my ion to my sister and am wanting to upgrade to something nicer that’s under/around $400 but am open to other prices too. mine right now has a pre amp in it and was trying to find others with one too but if not that’s okay cause from what i’ve been reading it better having it external. so in that case do people have good pre amp recommendations that aren’t too pricey?
