Yeah, Sarah Newlin was an absolutely horrible person and a truly terrible religious bigot. Her actions, from leading the anti-vampire crusade to her role in Hep-V, caused immense suffering and death. She deserved to face serious consequences for everything she did but….

***Why Her Punishment Went Too Far***

However, I think the way her story ended was deeply disturbing and problematic, regardless of how much we hated her. Reducing her to a chained "blood bag," humiliated, taunted, and perpetually used for profit, felt less like justice and more like torture porn.
The show leaned heavily into sexual degradation as punishment for her, especially with Pam's comments about Sarah being "born to be a whore" and her desperate offer of "sexual favors" being mocked. This felt like a gross double standard for a female villain. We rarely see male villains in fiction subjected to this specific kind of prolonged, sexually charged humiliation and bodily exploitation, even if their crimes are just as heinous.
No matter how evil a character is, ***no one deserves that kind of dehumanization and sexualized torment***. It wasn't just about her suffering; it was about the specific, nature of that suffering and the show's implicit invitation for us to relish it. It crossed a line from "just deserved " into something that felt genuinely uncomfortable for me to watch.

Sarah Newlin was a Monster, But Her Ending Was Still Grossly Problematic
