Why are some nursing homes allowed to treat old people like shit?
I saw that RTE investigates did an episode on this (not that I watch RTE), and I was reminded of this recently when one of my elderly relatives had to go to a nursing home for 8 weeks after an injury. She went to the hospital first and got an X-ray, the hospital staff told her everything was fine and to go to a nursing home for 2 weeks. Then the next day they realised that they fucked up and ready the x ray wrong, told her to come back and now she is there for 8 weeks.
A lot of the staff treat the old people in the nursing home like complete shit. Recently this relative (woman in her late eighties) was forced to "go to bed" at 5 o'clock. She is treated like a child. The other day she rang us to tell us that there was literally nobody there. No staff anywhere.
I've seen this happen a lot in healthcare settings in Ireland. My grandfather died because an incompetent consultant fucked up on him completely. That consultant got away with it completely and is now still in the hospital. I understand healthcare is stretched in this country, but holy shit, things are bad.
