Asbestos Removal

My wife and I are in the process of renovating my a 1960's brick ranch that I inherited. To no one's surprise, the popcorn ceiling has asbestos mixed in. Got our first estimate today and he said about $7/sqft or close to 10k. Does anyone know if that's pretty much the going rate, or has anyone had a better quote recently?
