Worth it to go to monterey for the first 4 days of car week?

I'm taking a trip out to california in early august to move my brother in to grad school near LA, and Monterey is pretty far from there (like a 6 hour drive or something). I really want to go but I have to leave california on august 12 and i know the best events (pebble beach concours, the quail, etc) are later in the week. would it even be worth it to go to the trouble of going all the way to monterey from LA just for the first few days of the car week? The events taking place on the 8th-11th look OK but maybe not quite worth the extra trip, however if the amount of exotics driving around everywhere are as crazy as I've heard they are then it might be cool enough to justify going there just for car spotting. How much better would Monterey carspotting be on the first few days of the week be than just spotting around Beverly Hills or something?
