Red Flag?
Hi!! I just got hired at a med surg tele unit at a hospital about a month ago. My orientation lasts 10 weeks but my manager mentioned to talk to him if I need to extend. It’s been about a month since I started and I’ve already done a couple of shifts. During my hiring, my manager mentioned I’ll be working with 1 preceptor but ever since I started I was paired up with different nurses (I dont think theyre trained preceptors but just experienced nurses). I reached out to manager about it and he apologized as there were changes in staffing. Although I’m able to see different perspectives of work routines, it still helps to have a consistent trained preceptor. These are good nurses but in my opinion not good when it comes to teaching. I just try to take the good things and leave the bad.
In addition, half of my shifts I was already floated with my preceptors to different units. It was never mentioned to me during the hiring process that I could potentially be floated to different units especially early in my shifts even if im in orientation. I was hoping to just be on my unit especially since its been only a few weeks since i started to be more familiar and comfortable with my unit.
Are these red flags for this unit/hospital?
