Heat damage?

1st year hydrangeas (2 months old)

So may 5th the wife and I replaced knockout roses for 3 hydrangeas, Seaside Newports, we’ve been very cautious on how to plant and how much to water this is our first go at having hydrangeas but unfortunately on July 9th 2025 and all the once pretty vibrant flower heads are now crispy brown leaves… we’ve made sure to water when the sun was past their spot as to not burn them. We water the base of the plant rather than spray the whole bush with water, are these dead? Should we uproot and try again next spring? Any advice helps. We’ve done some looking around online and reading comments from other people but for some reason ours started to dry and ultimately crisped the flowers but not the leaves, they’re still green. Please help
