Unpopular opinion: the REAL reason for G2 performance is Caps unfit into captain role

Look, I am the biggest fan of Caps ever. If Caps has no fans, then I am dead. I watched him since 2017, I witnessed “Dylan, we need Vayne” in real live, I jumped as crazy when he joined G2 , and I absolutely agree that this season he just deadlifting 4 corpses throughout the year. Caps is insane mechanically, he grinds a lot, he breath and sleep with game in mind and his knowledge about the game is unmatched.

But let’s be honest: he is just unfit for captain role. While he had extrovertish and very talkative Perkz by his back — G2 shines. Caps could focus on his game, on mechanics, on playing and team just performs. Perkz was the one who could say the right words, motivate people, keep them together and make sure that team doesn’t lose their faith.

But Caps … he is introvert. You can see that he hates drama, he hates all this personal relationship issues, the necessity to manage conflicts, solve issues and align players just drains his mental energy so much that he doesn’t have enough to keep playing. This is the type of leaders who are good when things are good, but when things are tough, they just don’t have mental energy and skills to uplift team. It is not even a critique of Caps — there are people who can lead and there are people who are best in their job but can’t lead. This is OK. In my 15 years career in software engineering I have seen a lot of people like this. They are best, but they can’t tolerate the mental pressure to deal with negative energy from others.

Additionally, looks like Caps finds hard time to manage management too. There were a lot of talks about how Yike and Mikyx were replaced, I don’t want to go there, but I am sure that such situation would never occur with Perkz. Luka was just the right guy to manage even such an asshole as Ocelote.

G2 needs someone like this again. Positive, open, talkative, motivating people. If you listen to Tabe interview on IWD and Yamato podcast, you would hear how Tabe appraised Tarzan for his ability to keep team together, say right words to the team, motivate them to not give up, and manage 4 other players when coach is not there. Such players are critical for great teams.

Caps is insanely great player and undisputedly the GOAT of West. But he just lacks those skills. You can see this year that the biggest missing factor from this G2 is just having fun. They don’t smile. They don’t laugh. You don’t have this vibe of 5 friends just playing their best in a good spirit. Labrov sometimes looks like he will fade away just on stage from his nerves and no one calming him down and cheering him up.

This might be a wrong take, and I am ready to catch a ton of minuses, but when I analyse this G2, I think their ceiling is very high. They are talented, gifted and right players who can grow and beat. But they are not a TEAM, and Caps unfortunately just can’t manage them as a captain and build this chemistry roster needs.

For a long it was hidden by friendship with Mikyx, Mikyx with Hans, BB and Dylan, Caps and Dylan, but as roster changes and fewer “old friends” left in roster, the problem becomes more and more visible.
