How the fuck do I get past Aava to get the Vessel Shield?

I genuinely have no idea what to do against Aava. Everything she does one shots me and each attempt is taking 10+ minutes because I do no damage. I've just been using my +10 Mace like with every other boss, is there a strategy I'm missing?
