I applied to Homesense and missed the phone call since I was working my summer job when they called. I went in person to let the Manager know but he told me to apply again and he’ll call me?

I’m 21, and I only worked this easy half day summer camp job, for the past 4 summers (this my fifth summer, I started at 17). I’m in college (I get good grades but feel like I ain’t learning much tbh), basically I want to have a job during school for once by the fall to make more money. My friend started working at Homesense in June and he said ppl left so I figured if I apply I can get in and my friend would give a good word.

But they ofc called me when I was working at my summer job where ur not supposed to be on ur phone. It’s kinda my fault I guess but whenever I try to set up a voicemail on my phone it does not work so I can’t get voicemails. I never gotten a voicemail in my life. So that’s bad luck on my part.

I asked the friend (his first job before this was Marshall’s) and he said when jobs call you it means they are considering hiring you, so if that’s the case why do jobs do phone calls for an interview? Why can’t they just send an email? Like that way none of this would have happened.

So I figured I go and explain myself and he did ask if I wanna do part time and I say yes, he ask my availability I say my summer job is only mornings so I can do afternoons and when he asked if I can do closing he said yes. He told me to apply again online. But I realize you can’t use the same email to apply again “cause I already applied”, this is my main personal email.

Basically thoughts on this, did he just say that to get rid of me cause he did not wanna hire me?

And I don’t get why I have to apply again online if they have my application already and wait for a phone call if I’m right there in person to hear whatever he has to say.

I applied on Sunday, the phone call was Monday morning, I called them on Monday they did not answer. I went on Wednesday to talk to the manager.
