GUCU - Automatic Checking Account Changes with $5.00 fee

Heads up-

GUCU is automatically changing everyone’s checking account to a “Savvy Spending Account”.

Instead of being free, this new account type comes with a $5 monthly fee. They act like they are doing everyone a favor with the features of the account type, but the features are no things most people want in a bank account (most people wouldn’t want to pay $5/mo).

-ID protect -Credit Score Tools -Cell phone protection -“Loan and mortgage details”

You have to opt out of this and change back to a “Everyday Spending Account” to continue without a monthly fee. This account type does everything you are used to with a bank account (Debit card, online access, etc).

But they won’t let you change back until August 1st. The “Savvy Account” is free for 60 days.

This is very anti-consumeristic, so I wanted to give people a heads up.
