Religion in story telling.

I have what feels like niche question but it may not be. Please no judgement ❤️ I am a Christian and I love fantasy and romance. I am in NO way a perfect Christian but I try and fail. I’d you are religious you know the cycle and the struggle. I badly want to emulate this in my book but I don’t want the book to become all about religion. Is this makes since of what most brought up in my book: Plot - romance - religion

If anyone has any tips on balancing this I would love to hear it. My characters go to church on Sunday, pray before meals, and think of God in the hardest of times. But that’s maybe 1% of the lines in my book. I just don’t want people who aren’t religious to be turned away.

Here’s my brain vomit of thought right now. With that said my characters aren’t perfect. My main concern is relationships and sex. I want there to be tension of having sex outside of marriage but not being able to resist, I also wanted the characters to sleep in the same bed but know it’s maybe wrong but not everytime they go they feel guilty. One character does have sex with her boyfriend but I want to walk this line carefully. I’m not glorifying sin but I want to display the struggle.

This is not smut btw. Just to clarify. Please no judgement. I’m currently processing this storyline in editing.
