Battery disconnection

I have a 2004 ford ranger, I am trying to replace the center dash panel on it and I know it’s recommended to disconnect the battery before doing so because you have to deal with the radio and everything. My question is am i still able to disconnect the battery if my key is stuck in the ignition. This has been an issue for a couple of months now and I’m not sure exactly how to fix that and if i’m able to disconnect the battery without fucking something up 😭. any advice would help thank u:)
