Car dealer sold illegal vehicle

I bought a used diesel truck. Later took it for state inspection and was informed it was "deleted." I notified the dealership and the offered me trade in value. I can't sell the truck and dealers refuse to take it on a trade. What should I do? Vehicle was purchased in NC.
