San Fernando Valley—Let’s Protect Our Community From Deceptive Religious Recruitment

If you’ve been approached recently at malls like Northridge Fashion Center, Sherman Oaks Galleria, or Westfield Topanga with questions like, “Have you heard of God the Mother?”, you might have met recruiters from the World Mission Society Church of God (WMSCOG). They don’t share who they really are or what they believe upfront. Instead, they use manipulative tactics to draw people in.

This kind of covert recruiting is happening right here in our community, targeting young adults, teens, and especially young women. It’s not just unfair—it’s harmful. That’s why the Protecting Minors and Vulnerable Adults from Coercive Religious Recruitment Practices Act (PRCRA) is important.

What Does This Bill Do?

The PRCRA protects people by:

  • Requiring religious groups to be honest and upfront about their identity and beliefs before recruiting anyone.
  • Making sure parents give consent before minors are approached.
  • Giving malls and private property owners the ability to stop unwanted solicitation.
  • Preserving religious freedom while stopping coercive and manipulative tactics.

Why Should San Fernando Valley Care?

WMSCOG has been active here. Their tactics are cult-like. They teach that their founder was the second coming of Christ and that a South Korean woman is “God the Mother.” Members are pressured to cut ties with friends and family, give money, and follow strict rules without question.

This is not normal faith-sharing. It’s manipulation disguised as religion, and it’s happening all around us.

How You Can Help

WMSCOG tries to silence critics through threats and harassment. I’m not afraid, and neither should you be. I stand with you to push this bill forward and protect our community.

This is about truth, freedom, and respect, not politics.

Together, we can keep the San Fernando Valley a place where faith is a choice, not a trap.

If you want to get involved or talk more, feel free to reach out.

Let’s protect what matters most, our community and our future.
