Smart Connect Over USB-C

I have a Lenovo Legion laptop and a Lenovo M9 Tablet. I have gotten smart connect to work over Wi-Fi but I am wanting to use it over USBC. I will mainly be using this in an area where i won't have a wireless connection that allows devices in the same network to communicate with wach other and it would be nice to have the tablet as a second mini monitor for various tasks.

This may be an issue with the tablet itself not supporting this somehow. I ordered an Idea Pad Pro and should be getting that soon but if it wont work over a cable either I may end up returning it.

Any ideas?
