Fraudulent Registration?

Hi all,

Let me start by saying this: I know, it’s illegal.

I’m a non EU student hopefully starting my studies in September in the Netherlands. My situation like many others is that I can’t find any housing. But the thing is: I can stay with my uncle who lives in the Netherlands BUT.. I can’t register at his place because he receives some kind of medical toeslag (I’m not sure of the name exactly) and if I do he’ll likely end up paying more or they just end the toeslag. That’s at least what he told me. Could be that he doesn’t want me there haha. But my real question is: do people in the Netherlands register somewhere and don’t end up living there? Is it true that people ask money so you can register at their place? Is this something I should look into or just abide by the rules and sleep on the streets?
