Lamentable Lexicons and Languishing Literacy

First, let me apologize for the crime of having enjoyed reading as a child.

It is my great regret that consuming copious amounts of written material seems to have so grievously stunted my development as a “normal” human being.

I do not often deliberately choose to cloak my meaning behind sesquipedalian utterances; rather, they emerge as a natural byproduct of the restless motion of my mind.

What truly vexes me is the expectation that I must effortlessly grasp the ineffable social codes dictating “appropriate” vocabulary, when, in truth, those codes are tangled in ineluctable combinations and contradictions.

If a word does not reside comfortably within your current lexicon, I urge you not to recoil or dismiss it as “pretentious” or “showy.” Instead, seize that moment as an opportunity, an invitation to expand your mind’s borders rather than tighten the walls of ignorance.

To demand that I dumb down my expression for the fragile sensibilities of the lexically complacent is not only an insult to me but a betrayal of your own intellectual growth.

Quite frankly, if you find yourself vexed by unfamiliar vocabulary, then you need to get good. Sharpen your tools. Grind your blade. Hunt down knowledge with relentless hunger.
